Who we are
Hoojah is a social debate platform operated from Malaysia, available at hoojah.rudzainy.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Hoojah, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Hoojah website and any official Hoojah applications.
Information we collect
We collect the information you give us and the information generated by your use of the platform:
- Account details — your email address, username, password (stored only in hashed form), and any profile information you add, such as a display name or profile photo.
- Content you post — your hoojahs, responses, debate turns, and verdicts, together with the stance tags and timestamps attached to them.
- Votes — the agree/neutral/disagree votes you cast, recorded so tallies can be computed (see the next section for how vote privacy works).
- Social graph — who you follow, your follow requests, your accepted followers, and the accounts you have blocked.
- Usage and technical data — standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps, used for security and to keep the service running.
Vote privacy: the secret ballot
Votes on Hoojah are private by design. We record your vote so we can compute and display aggregate tallies, but your individual vote is never shown to the author of a hoojah or to any other user, and the platform is deliberately built so that vote notifications and public data cannot be used to attribute a vote to you. Only the aggregate counts — how many agreed, stayed neutral, and disagreed — are ever displayed.
Cookies and sessions
Hoojah uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. This cookie is essential to providing the service — without it you could not stay logged in. We do not use third-party advertising cookies and we do not embed third-party ad-tracking technology.
Images and media hosting
Profile photos and other images you upload are stored and served through Cloudinary, our media hosting provider. Cloudinary processes this media on our behalf to store it and deliver it to users viewing the platform.
How we use your information
We use your data to: provide the platform (showing your content to others, computing vote tallies, running debates, delivering notifications); keep your account secure and authenticate you; enforce our Terms of Service, including moderation and the blocking system; maintain, debug, and improve the service; and communicate with you about your account. We process your data because it is necessary to provide the service you signed up for, to meet our legal obligations, and for our legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe and functional.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only: with service providers who process it on our behalf to run the platform (such as our hosting and media-hosting providers), under obligations of confidentiality; when required by law or a valid order of a Malaysian authority; or to protect the rights, safety, or security of Hoojah and its users. Content you post publicly is, by its nature, visible to other users according to your account's privacy settings.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from the live platform; residual copies may persist for a limited period in backups before being purged in the normal backup cycle. Aggregate vote tallies, which are not attributable to any individual, may persist as part of the content they belong to.
Your rights under the PDPA 2010
If you are in Malaysia, the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete, and to withdraw consent to processing (which may mean we can no longer provide you the service). To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@rudzainy.com; we will respond within the timeframes the PDPA requires.
Blocking and privacy controls
You control your visibility on Hoojah. You can set your account to private, so that only followers you approve see your activity, and follow requests to you stay pending until you accept them. You can block any user: blocking is bidirectional, hiding your content from them and theirs from you.
Minimum age
Hoojah is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at hello@rudzainy.com and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform or the law changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we will notify you on the platform. Continuing to use Hoojah after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
